Kunpan Cultural School

In June 2006 we moved our school from south India to north India - to Dharamsala - the centre of the Tibetan Government in Exile, and the official residence of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. Since June 2006 we have been renting a house as our school in Upper Sukkar, 12 km away from Dharamsala. We are currently fundraising to build our own school.

Fifth Group - 2011 To 2013

The fifth group of students started their two years of further education with us in September 2011 and they will finish in August 2013. Three of them already passed the Cambridge University PET exam. At the moment another remaining of them are preparing for the PET and FCE exam, both of which they will take in May 2012.

Fourth Group - 2009 To 2011

The fourth group of students started their two years of further education with us in June 2009 and they will finish in June 2011. Fourteen of them already passed the Cambridge University PET exam. At the moment another six of them are preparing for the PET exam and thirteen for the FCE exam, both of which they will take in March 2011.

Third Group - 2006 To 2009

The third group of students started in July 2006 and finished in May 2009. The third group was unique because after two years of further education we found that their English was not as good as we had hoped in terms of getting jobs back in Tibet. So we decided to keep them almost another year to bring them up to a good level, which proved successful.

Second Group - 2004 To 2006

In August 2004 we started with our second group of 20 students in order to provide them with enough education to enable them to find jobs back in Tibet. We taught Chinese, Computing and English; we also offered workshops on Buddhist philosophy. This was a positive experience for the students and made them feel reunited with Tibetan culture.

First Group - 2002 To 2004

The first group of students started with us in 2002 in Bangalore, south India, and finished in 2004. They did an English course in preparation for Cambridge University exams, a CISCO Networking Computing course, Graphic Design, and the Indian National Open School 10th grade exams. Most of the students returned to Tibet following their time at the school.

Audience With The Dalai Lama

In June 2010 the Board of Directors of E.S. Tibet had the honour of having a private audience with His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama to talk to him about the school's progress and its future plans. He was very supportive and pleased to hear about our success so far. At that time he gave us the name Kunpan Cultural School: kunpan means 'beneficial to all'.
